Art of Wine Dinner | Featuring Michelle Richardson's "Changing the Narrative"

This will include wine parings, dinner and a wonderful discussion with the featured artist Michelle Richardson. Art will also be on sale and a portion of the proceeds will go to support our mission of creating access to the arts. Richardson will converse with the restaurant patrons about her artistic career, the inspiration for her technique and an overall joyful conversation over dinner.

Michelle Richardson’s “Changing the Narrative”

Exhibition Summary:
Michelle Richardson’s exhibition Changing the Narrative, invites the viewer to reframe their interpretation of first impressions. When you see someone for the first time, what is your assumption of their behavior? Personality? Is your assumption based on society’s definition of gender, class, and even race and ethnicity? In each painting, Richardson challenges the viewer to broaden their definition of communication as the viewer may see one thing in the composition but rethink their perception given the title of the painting.

“Communication is expressed in many forms: such as speaking, singing, spoken words, lyrics, literature, the visual arts, dance and movement, actions, body language, gestures, facial expressions, music and so on. Everybody has a story and every story is significant. Every story does not have to be in the headlines. If every person takes the time to listen to their neighbor’s story, that could make a world of difference, even to the extent of saving lives. This exhibit is a call, to everyone who has ears, to hear and listen.” (Richardson, 2025).

Richardson encourages people not to judge prematurely but to build compassion and understanding of the individual(s) portrayed in the artwork given their story and their humanity.

Michelle Richard son is also an artist featured during the Colors of Royalty and Transcending Traditions Exhibitions, originally from Newport News, Virginia.
